Forgiven

Mua ha ha, my plan worked! The geese have forgiven me. Well it wasn't so much of a plan as going with the flow of things. The girls seemed so skiddish I all, but ignored them just feeding them and putting them up for three days. The only contact I did have was once or twice a day I would sit in the open door way of the the living room glass door and hand feed them some tid bits. After two days of this treatment and now they love me again. Coming when I call, following me about the yard, and so fourth. I guess all the books where right geese are just human two year olds with feathers. They and I are getting to a good point in life, the follow me when I am outside and come when I call, but when I am inside the house they now will graze, and wander away a bit (that is five feet off the patio) to drink water, where as before the obsessivly wouldn't leave the glass of the door. They still stay in the close vicinity of the side living room door though. To quote my favorite movie of all time, Black Beauty, "As the days went by I still stayed right beside her (mom), but I began to have my own ideas of what we should do, so much of the time she would just stand there!" and yes that is a direct quote, in case you care. Please watch the movie. Any way in general terms they are growing so fast! I noticed adult wing feathers on Gwen the other day, and Gerdy's wings are getting so huge. The both look sort of odd right now as they are molting out their baby feathers and growing in the adult ones. The adult feathers though have such a sleek beauty to them, it's just get past this stage and think about the next one. As I write this they are out side the door preening from their morning bath, ah so cute! Check in soon for more!
P.S. This is Gertrude being a true bird, bathing in the bird bath, or sleeping rather.... but I guess thats a water bird for you!

Strange Beasties

For my Seventeen Birthday I got two goslings, or baby geese. I had wanted geese for a while, for no particular reason, and then suddenly these two fluffy, adorable babies where trust into my life. I have now has the goslings three weeks (officially today) and they have already impacted my life, and so in the way I do things I have decided to start a blog on them. The "girls" are one week apart Gwenivere is the younger at three and a half weeks old. Gertrude is four and a half weeks. My mum suspects Gertrude is a boy though (we don't know) although she has no evidence, Gerdy is just more... masculine. At first the geese followed at my heels everywhere, then I tried to do what the breeder said and hold them for half an hour everyday. Unfortunately this concluded in chasing the little things all over my back yard resulting in them now running away when ever I get to close to them. This is a recent development in the last two days. On he other side of the scale the second I go inside the house (they live in the yard) They stand outside our living room sliding door chirping and pecking the glass with their beaks. They practically live against that door. Well that's all for now! Check back in soon!
